Job Description

Summary: This skilled field position ensures compliance with the  Florida Building Code Miami-Dade County Code , and other regulations regarding the  installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment . The inspector conducts on-site inspections, enforces code compliance, and provides technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for code compliance.
  • Issue notices for code violations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate electrical-related fire incidents and substandard installations.
  • Inspect electrical appliances in retail settings and enforce removal of unapproved items.
  • Check electrical plans and specifications for compliance.
  • Confer with contractors, owners, and superiors on complex or unclear cases.
  • Conduct joint inspections, Certificate of Use inspections, and respond to complaints.
  • Assist in legal enforcement, including securing warrants and supporting prosecutions.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must meet qualifications as an  Electrical Inspector under:
  • Miami-Dade County Code
  • Florida DBPR
  • Florida Statutes
  • Valid  Florida Driver’s License (Class E)required before appointment.
  • Additional requirements may apply per City needs, in accordance with applicable laws.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, equipment, and installation techniques.
  • Familiarity with construction processes and standard testing devices.
  • Working knowledge of relevant building and fire safety codes.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications, write reports, and maintain accurate records.
  • Skilled in identifying hazards and enforcing compliance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with contractors, property owners, and the public.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Work is primarily outdoors at construction sites, buildings, and fire investigation locations.
  • Frequent exposure to electrical hazards, high temperatures, and working at heights.
  • Regular activities include walking, bending, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 14 lbs.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination for using tools, computers, and inspection equipment.
