Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Fleet Mechanic - Bus Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of state-owned school buses to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of South Carolina’s students. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. This position will be part-time, up to 30 hours per week, and candidate must be located in Beaufort, SC.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Two (2) years of experience in automotive or diesel maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.

  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within six (6) months of hire.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on school buses and related equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and air conditioning.

  • Conduct safety inspections in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Maintain accurate service and repair records using maintenance software and documentation standards.

  • Assist in identifying and ordering parts and supplies needed for repairs.

  • Ensure compliance with SCDE and Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards.

  • Respond to service calls and perform roadside repairs as needed.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
