Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician Contractor to support the operational needs of our Jersey City biotechnology facility. This role is critical to maintaining a safe, functional, and compliant working environment across our laboratory and office spaces. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical expertise, a proactive attitude, and experience working in regulated or scientific environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
• Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of HVAC systems, plumbing, lighting, safety equipment, and laboratory support systems.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and troubleshoot equipment failures.
• Maintain and repair facility infrastructure including doors, locks, office furnishings, and lab fixtures.
• Equipment & Facilities Support
• Assist with the setup, calibration, and minor servicing of lab and office equipment.
• Coordinate with external vendors for repairs and inspections when needed.
• Maintain clean and organized mechanical and utility rooms.
• Regulatory & Safety Compliance
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, cGMP, and internal SOPs.
• Participate in audits and inspections as necessary.
• Maintain logs and documentation of maintenance activities, service records, and repairs.
• General Operations
• Support lab and office moves, reconfigurations, and installations.
• Assist with inventory management of tools, parts, and supplies.
• Respond to facility-related emergencies during and outside of regular business hours (as needed).

Qualifications

• Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in a commercial, pharmaceutical, or biotech facility.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Basic understanding of building automation and monitoring systems (BMS).
• Familiarity with laboratory environments, biosafety levels, or cleanroom operations is a strong plus.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work on ladders, and access confined or elevated spaces.
• Standing, walking, and manual dexterity required for extended periods.
