Job Description

Our client, a prestigious Am Law firm, is seeking a Practice Manager to support its Investigations & White Collar and Antitrust practices in the Washington, D.C. office. This role serves as a trusted advisor and “chief of staff” to practice leaders, partnering with attorneys and business operations teams to drive strategy, ensure operational efficiency, manage staffing and financial insights, and oversee day-to-day practice operations. This role will be hybrid in DC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with practice chairs, the Director of Practice Management, and firm leadership to develop and execute strategic plans with goals focused on revenue, profitability, headcount, brand awareness, and competitive positioning.
  • Analyze practice financials and performance metrics to identify trends, track timekeeper performance, and deliver actionable insights to leadership.
  • Oversee staffing, work allocation, and career development opportunities in collaboration with the Talent team, ensuring equitable distribution of assignments and proactive management of performance issues.
  • Coordinate with business operations departments to support lateral onboarding, process improvement, and client value initiatives.
  • Manage daily business operations, including budgeting, billing and collections processes, matter intake, and establishing frameworks for practice meetings and communications.
  • Act as a point of contact for in-house legal operations teams to strengthen client relationships and improve delivery of legal services.
  • Support practice leaders with preparation for group meetings, retreats, and follow-up on initiatives.
  • Collaborate across departments to drive efficiencies, process innovation, and continuous improvement in practice operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or MBA preferred.
  • 4+ years of related experience as a paralegal, practice manager, or in a business operations role within the legal industry.
  • Experience with Investigations & White Collar, Antitrust, or regulatory practices is required.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with proven ability to develop and execute operational and strategic plans.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
